Lower Cape Figure Skaters participate in both USFS and ISI Events.
United States Figure Skating
Compete USA: Compete USA offers events for tots, basic 1-6, Pre-Freeskate to Free Skate 6, Excel Beginner - Excel Preliminary and Non Test- Preliminary. These developmental levels are created to ensure that skaters have strong fundamentals in their spins, steps and jumps before moving on to more difficult step sequences, spin variations and double/triple jumps.
Many compete USA events also include compulsory moves, spin and jump challenges, showcase and Aspire synchronized skating events.
Excel: Excel levels, “align test structure requirements with the competition levels, giving skaters a fair playing field to continue competing and testing according to their abilities.” There are no age restrictions for any of the levels. According to US Figure Skating Excel levels, “will encourage skaters, offer them opportunities for success in a competitive atmosphere while they continue to progress through the test structure, gain credentials for future endeavors and retain membership in U.S. Figure Skating. Competitions that host these events will be offering more opportunities to keep skaters motivated along the pipeline and keep them enthusiastic about their abilities in hopes of retaining skaters who may be discouraged by the high level of technical elements at all levels.”
Well Balanced: “USFS Well Balanced program is designed for the competitive skater who is on the track toward Regionals and qualifying competitions. The skating standard is far above the test level . Skaters who choose to compete in this more aggressive track may decide not to test USFS Freestyle tests to maintain age and level eligibility for qualifying events.” Age requirements limit participation at most levels.
